Description
CX802
This CX Series lathe has all the features any serious turner would be looking for.
This model is an improved version of our CT128N, where we have changed from a (brushless) DC motor to a heavy duty 3-phase AC motor. The machine now features higher efficiency, a smoother and better power output and is much quieter. Having a smooth motor at slow speeds is extremely important and this machine will give you hour after hour of smooth quiet turning.
Other features on this lathe include an electronic variable speed control & a digital variable speed display. The lathe is standard with heavy-duty cast iron legs (and adjustable steel feet) for added stability & minimal vibration. The legs also feature gussets in the casting that allow for shelving and storage. The headstock slides to the end of the bedway for easy outboard turning. A reinforced steel storage basket comes standard for safekeeping of your tools & accessories. Forward/reverse switch, indexing spindle, spindle lock pin & electronic variable speed with two speed ranges (low & high) complete the package. Machine comes complete with spur center, live center, tool rest, 6” faceplate

What a beast!
This was an upgrade from a midi lathe. Wow! Variable speed is very reliable, reverse has the same torque as forward, and I have yet to bog this machine down! Turning an 18" piece is a breeze for this lathe. The feet have shock absorbing pads that keep the unit from "walking" when the piece is off balanced. The fact that Craftex has added a hand wheel is the cherry on top. Changing belt pulleys is a breeze. At $1000 less than the "top shelf" brands, I am very happy with this model. Get this lathe!

I like it
I've had mind for nearly 2 years now. Works great. With larger bowls I can slow down or stall the motor when I forget to change the belt to the slower speed range. I really miss not having a flywheel/handle on the headstock and the headstock lock is not in the best spot. It keeps falling out on me and I have to go searching through a pile of shavings on the floor to get it. It needs a 20A 220V circuit although I ran it for the first 5 months or so on a 15A circuit doing small stuff so you may have to run a dedicated circuit for it.

Solid, Well-made Lathe
This lathe was a substitute for the CX800 when I found that I could not fit that machine in my shop!! The lathe arrived at the Ottawa store in fine shape and it was easily transported home on a car trailer. Since the lathe is shipped disassembled, it was easily installed in my basement shop with no heroics required. The parts are well machined and fit together easily as described in the user manual. I made a few small items on it, tools handle samplers and the like, to test it out and so far I really like it. Pros: Excellent speed control and speed range Smooth, quiet operation Handles are large and well-placed Movable head helpsn placement in smaller spaces Rigid and heavy 220 volt operation (had to make a dedicated circuit for it though) Cons Outboard turning requires an accessory attachment Switch/speed read-out placement can be awkward and the switches are small Bed is high for my medium stature, could be a show stopper for those under 5' 8"
