JOINTER 6IN. 1HP W/OPEN STAND CSA CRAFTEX CT086

I bought this machine 6 years ago now. I used it to joint pallet wood to re do a floor in our home and needed to joint and plane over 300 sq. ft of material and this jointer did a great job and still serves me well. If you pland to joint shorter stock this will work well. As a rule of thumb, jointing boards more than double the outfeed bed legnth can be challenging so get a machine with a longer bed if jointing longer boards. My only dislike is that i find it difficult to keep the fence a perfect 90 to the bed but have learned effective tricks so that doesn`t matter anymore. still diggin it. Great for a hobby shop and solidly built. Get or build a mobile base. If you need to move this thing even once, you`ll be glad you did.

My garage shop was missing this essential piece of equipment. If you plan on purchasing rough sawn wood and dressing it yourself, you'll need the jointer and planner combo. I had the DW735 already and trying to joint boards using sleds and jigs is such a pain. Nothing beats having a jointer. This jointer is perfect for the small shop and hobby woodworker. It's smaller than most of the other jointers, it only requires 120V and the price is right. There are just a couple of comments that I'd like to make... This unit is way heavier than I thought it would be. Make sure you've got a helping hand when transporting/assembling it and setting it on some sort of wheeled base was an absolute requirement in my small shop as even moving it a little bit was nearly impossible for me. Like a new-born calf, this thing comes covered in slimy goop when you first unpack it. It is, of course, some sort of protective oil and you'll need to clean it off before you use the tool but it's important that you replace that coating with something else. I used TurtleWax for my planner bed (with great success!) so I also applied it here. The cast iron top of this jointer needs some sort of sealant or else it will begin to rust right before your eyes! I was horrified to find some rain water had dripped from the garage door and creating a huge rust mark on one end of the top. I cleaned it up and used the wax to prevent further damage but those stains will be a constant reminder. Johnson paste wax would also work well but the TurtleWax was cheap and something that I already had on hand. Dust collection is a struggle for any small shop. While the 1HP single-stage dust collector you had before seemed like a good idea, the shavings that come out of this thing will quickly clog the impeller and acquiring a 4-inch, two-stage dust collection system that works on a standard 120V/15A garage outlet can be a real challenge. Craftex could have done a better job at shaping the dust port. There are sharp angles and little spots for shavings to collect that impede the flow. I can't help but wonder if they couldn't have gotten away with a 2 1/2 inch port if they'd created more of a funnel instead of a wedge-shaped box. That would have allowed the use of a smaller dust separator such as the new CX423 (which I also purchased for this reason but didn't work at all... perhaps the reason why that unit is no longer offered on their website today?) Unless you're willing to let the shavings fall onto the floor, a two-stage, 4-inch dust collection system had better be part of your plan. I would highly recommend this jointer to any garage woodworker out there that wants to 'up their game'. Just get a mobile base for it, some TurtleWax, and be prepared to sweep up the mess.

I did not know what to expect . things worked great right out of the box . For me the test of the jointer is when you edge joint to make panels . they fit together fantastic. I wish I had bought this a year ago.

Have owned this unit for 4 years and have had no issues. It has performed a multitude of tasks without fail. The rack and pinion adjustments are very user friendly. Light cuts are easier on the blades but from a safety stand point it is a good idea anyway. Most of my use is hardwood(95%) and it has always met my expectations for a 6" jointer. Excellent value, and good quality, paid 399$ on sale and would advise any home woodworker to consider it over more expensive brand name units.

I bought this jointer on sale for my garage/hobby shop. As long as you are willing to spend a little time and do a good setup job on this jointer it will work very well. I have run a lot of hardwood over this and after about a year and a half I finally have some nicks in the blades. I will get them resharpened but replacement blades are reasonably priced. Light cuts are the key to keeping the blades in good shape. It's very quiet and the dust collection works reasonably well. Adjustments are easy to make as well. It's a great little hobby shop jointer.
