While we’re more well known as a purveyor of woodworking machinery than a specialist in hand tools, we’ve been selling lower priced hand planes for decades. The lower tier hand planes serve a particular market that will always be there but over the years we’ve been consistently asked to develop a much higher quality line at a fair price. Several years in the making, we’re excited about the launch of these new hand planes.
All hand planes are cast from ductile iron and the soles ground flat. Each plane has a comfortable handle and knob which are made from sapele and finished with oil, offering great control of the plane in use. The blade is made from O1 and is hardened to 58-62 HRC which will take a fine edge. The chip breaker is made from CRCA steel and it greatly reduces the amount of tear-out in use. Overall, these planes offer a noticeably higher level of craftsmanship and the range will continue to expand.
We are proud to be one of the first companies in the industry to begin importing and manufacturing machines for the market back in the late 70’s. Since the beginning, our philosophy of business has been to Buy Direct and Sell Direct to the end user, avoiding traditional dealership networks and passing the savings directly to the customer. Our brand of machinery, Craftex & Craftex CX Series, is a household name in Canadian woodworking & metalworking and can be found in thousands of workshops across the country.
