Description
Introducing the No. 5-1/2 Jackplane, part of a new line of high quality woodworking hand planes from Busy Bee Tools. This No. 5-1/2 Jack plane is the larger version of the No. 5 with a wider sole and blade that adds extra heft for those who prefer a heavier plane. This plane is the ideal tool for removing large amounts of material from boards to bring them to a specific dimension. Its length also makes it ideal for flatting one face of a board before thicknessing and can easily flatten boards up to 20” wide. The Jack is known as one of the most versatile planes used at the bench - a true Jack of all trades. It can flatten boards, dimension parts and even pare end grain accurately when used with a shooting board.
Modelled after the original Stanley No. 5-1/2, this plane is cast from ductile iron and the sole is ground flat. The comfortable handle and knob are made from sapele and finished with oil, offering great control of the plane in use. The plane has two separate adjustors that allow the user to advance and retract the blade with one adjustor and shift the blade side-to-side to centre the cut with the other.
The blade is made from O1steel and is hardened to 58-62 HRC which will take a fine edge. The chip breaker is made from CRCA and it greatly reduces the amount of tear-out in use. This plane comes packaged in a durable and attractive, foam-lined box that can be kept for safe storage. The craftsperson will truly enjoy using this high quality, well-made plane for many years and projects to come.

Great value for any woodworker
Ive been using planes for over two decades. I was very happy to see Busy Bee put their best foot forward on this new line of hand planes, giving some life back into the classic tools. If youre just starting out in woodworking or are expereienced, you will really see good value in these planes. Excellent value for the price and quality is the key here. Well done to the team at Busy Bee who brought this to life. I will be buying the cabient scraper and will look for more new additions to the line down the road.

Excellent Plane
Pleasantly surprised with this hand plane. Out of the box, I was impressed. I watched a few of the videos that busy bee put out and they were excellent, which helped with my decision. The plane didnt need much tuning at all and has consistenlty produced shavings to 0.0001! Love the box it came in and will be keeping this in the shop on display. Highly recommend especially for the the price.

5 1/2 Jack Plane
Plane os OK except for the chip breaker which is very crudely made. I would, therefore, not recommend this plane and any others in the line. It would be wiser to spend more on Lee Nielson or Veritas.

Good quality, for the price
Good quality tool. The only reason I've dinged it a star is the finish quality. The paint was missing in a few spots, not something that you would expect from a Veritas tool, but that said, its half the price. Used on a couple projects, and very happy with it, would buy again.
