Description

Introducing the No. 5 Jackplane, part of a new line of high quality woodworking hand planes from Busy Bee Tools. This No. 5 Jack plane is the ideal tool for removing large amounts of material from boards to bring them to a specific dimension. Its length also makes it ideal for flatting one face of a board before thicknessing and can easily flatten boards up to 20” wide. The Jack is known as one of the most versatile planes used at the bench - a true Jack of all trades. It can flatten boards, dimension parts and even pare end grain accurately when used with a shooting board.

Modelled after the original Stanley No. 5, this plane is cast from ductile iron and the sole is ground flat. The comfortable handle and knob are made from sapele and finished with oil, offering great control of the plane in use. The plane has two separate adjustors that allow the user to advance and retract the blade with one adjustor and shift the blade side-to-side to centre the cut with the other.

The blade is made from O1 steel and is hardened to 58-62 HRC which will take a fine edge. The chip breaker is made from CRCA steel and it greatly reduces the amount of tear-out in use. This plane comes packaged in a durable and attractive, foam-lined box that can be kept for safe storage. The craftsperson will truly enjoy using this high quality, well-made plane for many years and projects to come.

    Surprised with Very poor quality

Posted by Armin on 26th Sep 2023

Recently I have purchased a #5 and a #4 1/2 planes. Regarding the #5, Although it feels good ergonomically but the chip breaker was so problematic and hard to fix that I had to purchase a high quality one for $50 from anothet store and it worked perfectly right out of the box! The most frustrating issue is that the sole is not perpendicular to the sides of the plane. Although that could be fixed with large amount of sanding but price wise, that is not what I expected from a busy bee product. I realy appreciate busy bee tools for their hight quality products. I assume there has been a manufacturing defect in this item only and can be resolved through customer service.

    Fantastic Plane

Posted by Jonathan on 15th Feb 2022

I'm new to woodworking, and this is my first plane. But wow, has it been great. I have no issue getting shavings around 0.001". It leaves a silky smooth surface, and has no challenge cutting through oak or hard maple. I can finally take rough stock and get it dead flat! I'm sure seasoned veterans might find some gripes, but as a new woodworker I'm delighted with the performance and the price. I would definitely recommend this.
