Description
Introducing the No. 5 Jackplane, part of a new line of high quality woodworking hand planes from Busy Bee Tools. This No. 5 Jack plane is the ideal tool for removing large amounts of material from boards to bring them to a specific dimension. Its length also makes it ideal for flatting one face of a board before thicknessing and can easily flatten boards up to 20” wide. The Jack is known as one of the most versatile planes used at the bench - a true Jack of all trades. It can flatten boards, dimension parts and even pare end grain accurately when used with a shooting board.
Modelled after the original Stanley No. 5, this plane is cast from ductile iron and the sole is ground flat. The comfortable handle and knob are made from sapele and finished with oil, offering great control of the plane in use. The plane has two separate adjustors that allow the user to advance and retract the blade with one adjustor and shift the blade side-to-side to centre the cut with the other.
The blade is made from O1 steel and is hardened to 58-62 HRC which will take a fine edge. The chip breaker is made from CRCA steel and it greatly reduces the amount of tear-out in use. This plane comes packaged in a durable and attractive, foam-lined box that can be kept for safe storage. The craftsperson will truly enjoy using this high quality, well-made plane for many years and projects to come.

Fantastic Plane
I'm new to woodworking, and this is my first plane. But wow, has it been great. I have no issue getting shavings around 0.001". It leaves a silky smooth surface, and has no challenge cutting through oak or hard maple. I can finally take rough stock and get it dead flat! I'm sure seasoned veterans might find some gripes, but as a new woodworker I'm delighted with the performance and the price. I would definitely recommend this.
