Its staggered insert layout creates multiple stepped cuts across the width of the cutterhead rather than engaging the full cutting edge at once. This design helps reduce operating noise, minimize tearout, and produce a smoother, cleaner surface compared with conventional straight knives.

The cutterhead uses 30 square carbide inserts, each measuring 15 mm x 15 mm x 2.5 mm. When an edge becomes dull or chipped, the insert can be rotated 90° to expose a fresh cutting edge instead of replacing the entire knife. An indicator mark on one corner of each insert helps track its rotation.
