Very solid, good value.
Just offering an alternative opinion to the previous review. I found this vise to be as I expected for a budget model. I'm guessing it's of Chinese manufacture, having the typical characteristics of solid castings with some admittedly poor finishing in places. The latter (mostly sharp edges and burrs) is quickly dealt with using a file and emery paper. First up with any tool like this is to clean off the packing grease. Lapping in the ways is a good idea, then clean and lube. The cross ways both have adjustable gibs with two set and one thumb screw on each. These should be adjusted (with the thumb screw loose) to remove any sidways play from the saddles. The gibs are steel, so getting them adjusted correctly is a bit fiddly. Replacing them with brass would be a worthwhile upgrade. Yes, there is some lash in the slide lead screws, but this is normal and not unusually bad. The vise jaws are reasonable and have removable faces which can be replaced if necessary. The travelling jaw rides on a steel bar in the center which provides plenty of support, but might be a hazard for through drilling. Overall I'm very pleased with the vise which fully meets my expectations.

Sloppy, Lacks Precision
What can I say that isn't already in the title? This cross-slide vise will leave you frustrated with the amount of play and wiggle in the item. No amount of adjustment to the tightness of the slides can take the lay out of this vise. The handles do not move smoothly. Save your money and avoid this product.
