Description
Introducing the No. 4 smoothing plane, part of a new line of high quality woodworking hand planes from Busy Bee Tools. This No. 4 smoothing plane is the ideal tool for preparing surfaces for final finishing and is much faster than sanding or scraping. This plane makes short work of removing machining marks or bringing parts to final size. This is a great general purpose plane that is well suited for quick chores like trimming doors, flushing cabinets or any simple planing task.
Modelled after the original Stanley No. 4, this plane is cast from ductile iron and the sole is ground flat. The comfortable handle and knob are made from sapele and finished with oil, offering great control of the plane in use. The plane has two separate adjustors that allow the user to advance and retract the blade with one adjustor and shift the blade side-to-side to centre the cut with the other.
The blade is made from O1 steel and is hardened to 58-62 HRC which will take a fine edge. The chip breaker is made from CRCA steel and it greatly reduces the amount of tear-out in use. This plane comes packaged in a durable and attractive, foam-lined box that can be kept for safe storage. The craftsperson will truly enjoy using this high quality, well-made plane for many years and projects to come.

Such a lovely tool
I have to say this is a fantastic tool for my shop. What I mean is it's a beautifully designed and built precision tool. I'm so glad I bought it. It looks like art it's so nice. The sole was perfect for level when I honed it. My initial plan was to use my 100 year old Stanley #5 and get myself a BusyBee #4 for the finer work, nah. I got this hot rodded and it is so smooth and sturdy. Perfect shavings. So I bought the #5 too. Still setting up the 5, what a pair! For the money, nothing on the market can touch this, but I wouldn't have sunk money into planes above this bracket and have kept my antique. What fun this has been. Thanks

Best Bang for your Buck!
First off this plane was very very well packaged and pretty much courrier proof. I was impressed right from there. If BB spends that much time caring for shipping their items I could only imagine what the plane was like. Everything from the box to the well oiled thick plastic bag was impressive. Lot's of attention to detail and I still hadn't looked at the plane. Well when I pulled it out of the bag(nicely oiled to prevent oxidation) I was was first impressed with the weight of it. Looking at the beefy thick soul, cast iron and stunning brass cap iron I was in awe. She's a beauty in every way and although haven't produced any shavings yet, I'm confident it well well out perform my collection of old Stanleys.

This is a great plane!
I'll be honest. I wasnt sure what to expect. The price was not crazy high, nor was it cheap, so I was very curious. First off, I received the order 3 days after I placed the order. Good first step! :) Second, the packaging is fantastic, it felt like I was opening an iphone or something. I was genuinely excited while opening the box. Third, out of the box, this plane was impressive. Girth, looks, feel, overall first impression were great. Fourth, I spent time to watch the videos busy bee has on this planes and took sometime to do some very basic fine tuning. Finally, I've been using this for about a month and I can say that busy bee hit a homerun here! Everything from price, to the packaging, overall quality and the videos, I'm very happy with this and will be buying a no.7 in the near future.
