I have a business making wooden rings, and I use these lathes to hold a tapered mandrel to hold my rings. I am on this lathe at least 6 hours a day 5/6 days a week. I've had 4 of them so I've been able to see some wear and tear.
-The rear tailpiece adjustment tricks you into thinking you can lock the tailpiece into place, and screw it tight. You'll just end up stripping the threads. Its best to lock the tailpiece distance adjustment, then lock it into place on the bed of the lathe.
-Little balls attached to the bars fall off, I recommend dropping some CA glue in there before tightening or else they'll be gone.
-The pot on the speed adjustment can go funny and pulse and fail to provide a consistent speed.
-One lathe, the headstock spindle went off center. I think the bearing is bad as it got louder than the others.
First Lathe I've owned. Very happy with quality. Turing pens and small bowls with it.
This is the first lathe I've ever owned and I'm very happy with it
Compared to the master craft lathe this is a steal. Theirs it's made out of plastic wheres this one it's actually metal. Small engine might need something bigger if you're wanting to do bigger projects but for pens and small bowls this is a great little lathe.
