Our new 12 ½" Bench top Planer with Helical Style Cutterhead features a powerful 2HP and a 6 row helical cutterhead with 24 indexable cutters giving you power and superior finish you would expect from a stationary machine. Designed to manage larger, deeper cuts in wood, the helical style cutterhead is quieter and delivers a smoother finish compared to straight knife planers which will reduce your sanding time. This unit comes equipped with a cut depth indicator that automatically measures the depth of cut for each pass you take up to 1/8" and features built in dust collection with dual ports at 2-1/2" & 4" for easy hook up to a shop vac or dust collector.
The cutterhead raises and lowers on a 4 column precision ground carriage system which drastically reduces snipe. The convenient side carry handles allow for ease of portability and blade changes on this machine are simple and super fast. Chip an insert cutter? Simply unscrew the indexable cutter and rotate to get a fresh new cutting edge. Say goodbye to cumbersome and time consuming blade changes with traditional straight knife planers.

Great hobby planer
I love this thing. Going from a dewalt 3 blade, this is definitely an improvement. I agree that some people don't classify it as a proper helical cutter but I find it is still a major improvement from 3 blades. I do find I get some good snipe on the boards which is why I am only doing 4 stars, but in reality, I find most planers you are prone to sniping. Definitely a good investment for the money and has not let me down.

12.5 in planer
This is only the 2nd review I have ever done. The first for a hotel in Las Vegas was extremely negative. My second for this planer is extremely positive. It is everything it says it is and paid for itself the first time I used it. I had quite a lot of rough cut pine (and some maple) which needed planing. This planer worked beautifully; extremely smooth surface with one pass.

Everything I Need
Very happy with my new planer.

Smooooooth.
Has a very smooth cut, but i was hoping the inserts would have been (4) sided or maybe the carbide inserts as standard. Also return rollers on top would be great. The extra 1/2" is a real bonus in planing 12" shelving ect. All in all a darn nice machine.

False claims
This is NOT a helical cutter. It has inserts similar to a helical but they are set in straight rows. Poor cuts around knots, even with fresh blades and 2 inches of deep snipe on every cut. OK for a weekend warrior but misrepresented as a helical.

12.5IN. PLANER WITH HELICAL CUTTERHEAD CSA
extremely happy with this planer , I have been using it for yellow cedar and I have had no issues with snipe or tear out . It is an extremely quiet planer. Set up was real easy out of the box. My only issue is that the yellow safety switch will not stay in the switch. I put a piece of 2 sided tape to hold it in place. great planer for the price

ok for the money
First - its not true helical cutterhead as many pointed before. Not sure if that the reason for the snipes from the individual inserts, but they are well visible on soft wood (cedar) no matter how thin I'm planing. There's no speed control to do a "finish" pass either. Otherwise than the cutting quality works fine out of the box. Seems well built and assembles quick.

Helical thickness planer
Easy setup ,works well . Visited store in Dartmouth to obtain brushes after reading they should be changed every 10 -15 hours .sales person was very shocked and surprised and phoned head office while I was in the store to point this error in the manual out
